He who hunts the Monster
Inspector Grant and Investigator Kanaye Tanaka encounter some grizzly work.
Write a scene involving two characters investigating a scene. They are only allowed to communicate using one single word - it has to be the same word throughout
Another short piece inspired by those challenges I came across ages ago.
“Dead.” The words had barely escaped his lips. Grant Young looked to an equally solemn Kanaye Tanaka for guidance, but the man simply gestured for him to continue onward into the decrepit-looking building.
The smell of lingering aether burnt the back of his throat and made him see ripples in the fabric of the world. The next room was a work floor. He stopped one side of the door and waited for Kanaye to cover the other side. As silent as ever, the man simply nodded, and the two entered together. Grant had his Korvadir psi-pistol at the ready, but where once was a busy work floor used to manufacture the drug bliss, was now ominously quiet. Bodies lay scattered this way and that. Grant swallowed and went to each one. “Dead,” he muttered.
He did so repeatedly, and Kanaye echoed the same. Each Mortan had its centre destroyed. This had been clinical. He stopped at the far end of the room and looked at the cracked and broken wall where the largest body resided. Their bloodied and battered Mortan Berserker form was already crumbling to dust.
“Dead,” he said, pointing at the gaping wound in its chest.
There’s only one person who could so effortlessly take down an operation of this scale. Grant sighed and exchanged a glance with Kanaye.
You recognise this work right, only the Hunter is this efficient.
